A little bit of history ...

The expression "White Pages" is almost old as the phone which was in invented in 1876
by Professor Alexander Graham Bell in the United States.
Only Two years later came out the very first Phone Book.

The historic definition of
"White Pages" is "search by name in an alphabetical order",
their counter part
"Yellow Pages" means "search by activity".

The expressions were soon translated
into every possible language,
Paginas Blancas / Paginas Amarillas in Spanish,
Pages Blanches / Pages Jaunes in French
Pagine Bianche / Pagine Gialle in Italian.

In most countries paper White Pages
were edited by national phone companies.

The first electronique White Pages called Pages Blanches
(french translation of the world wite pages)
came out in France in 1982
on a prehistoic internet system called Minitel.
Too bad the video is not in English,
if you understand some French
it's interesting to see how the first
online white pages came into existance..

Telsta, Australia's former state owned
phonecompany launched the first
whitepages on the internet , online since 1994.
They edit Whitepages since 1906
and are one of the world's oldest
publishers of White Pages.

The Eiffel Tower Logo is present in the White Pages
of many countries.
The tower, the world's most famous monument
and a Communication symbol, fascinated
Bell who communicated with Gustave Eiffel.
It was built between 1887 and 1889.

As an old man Bell had many young friends
that could have been his grandchildren.
They lifed at his house, a magnificient estate called Beinn Bhreagh
and all together they kept making inventions.
80 years later, one of them came to an Internet Cafe in Paris
pushing the idea to create "white pages"
for Brazil and all those countries
where they did not exist ...
